The most beautiful parks in Paris

Far from concrete buildings, Paris is a green city that hosts several magnificent parks and gardens. Find here our selection of the most beautiful parks of the French capital.

The Luxembourg garden

Located in the heart of the capital in the 6th arrondissement, the Luxembourg garden is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful Parisian parks to visit. Choose a sunny day and walk around this huge 22 hectare estate with a coffee in your hand.

With several entrances all around the estate, the Luxembourg garden actually has several gardens. The most beautiful and undoubtedly the most popular part by walkers is the central part of it that faces the palace of Luxembourg. To brighten it up, the Princess de Medici ordered the creation of a large green space in 1612. Today, the palace welcomes the French Senate and remains partly open to visits. With its large water basins, its impeccably cut lawn and its beautiful flowers that can be admired in spring, Luxembourg’s garden has a royal appearance. It is nice to come and rest on a sunny afternoon on one of the many chairs available. Children can also sail small electric or sailing boats on the large pool for the pleasure of photographers.

Around the heart of the so-called “French garden”, you will also find an English garden, a wood of staggered trees and an orchard. The more athletic can enjoy tennis courts in a more shady part of the garden. Finally, art lovers can admire a hundred statues scattered around the park. Decidedly a nice walk in the Luxembourg Garden.

Vincennes wood

What, it’s not in Paris ? Yes, it is ! Just take the RER to Vincennes station and walk a few minutes. All in all, the Bois de Vincennes is only 25 minutes from Austerlitz station.

It would be a shame to miss this park as it is so beautiful and has many assets. The first? It is located right next to the castle of Vincennes known for its imposing keep and for having been the residence of one of the Presidents of the 5th Republic. We strongly advise you to visit the castle once you have spent a good time in the park. With a surface of 995 hectares, the wood is immense and you will of course not be able to visit everything. However, it is the ideal place to spend a beautiful sunny afternoon or better : enjoy the sunset. Indeed, the layout of the main part of the park makes it particularly beautiful. Simply sit on a dune facing the main pond and enjoy the natural spectacle surrounded by animals. Yes, animals ! Because what makes one of the particularities of the wood of Vincennes, it is that apart from its very large areas of greenery, its dunes where it makes good picnic, its some waterfalls and monuments, the park accomodates animals ! Between the ducks, the birds small or large by tens as the coots or the terns, or the fishes and the toads, you will find a very beautiful specimen of fauna in the wood of Vincennes. This is intended to be a natural area and it is not uncommon to see real flights of several large birds in the park. Even if it is not dangerous overseas, watch your children.

Besides nature, you will find at the wood of Vincennes enough to spend a good day with your family. Lots of space to play or stroll, free access facilities and games, and even a Zoo if you want to see even more animals! So, who’s up for a little distance from the center of Paris.

Buttes Chaumont Park

Last of the 3 most beautiful parks in Paris according to us but not the least : the Buttes-Chaumont park! Located almost on the edge of Paris, you will have to take the metro to the 19th arrondissement to get there. And once at the entrance, you will have to walk a few meters uphill to appreciate the real charm of the gardens of the park. Indeed, Buttes-Chaumont Park is as its name indicates rather steep. The advantage is that once at the top of one of the dunes, you will enjoy magnificent views over Paris or the surrounding garden.

Proud of its 25 hectares and its greenery, the Chaumont Mounds Park is a Parisian monument in its own right. Created under the reign of Napoleon 3 in 1867, this one celebrates an English style with a very mountainous decor : dunes, cliffs, rocks, waterfalls or caves : a very atypical Parisian park which will delight the curious ! Allow 2 hours for the full tour and more time if you wish to do it slowly. The most famous view of the park is without doubt that of the temple of Sybille which proudly thrones a few tens of meters high on the island of Belvedere. The view from the other side of the lake is really splendid.

Once the whole place has been visited, why not sit down by the lake and feed the ducks and swans who are fighting over the square in order to finish this beautiful walk in beauty ? The Buttes Chaumont park offers a real breath of fresh air and height in the heart of Paris. To discover absolutely !
